What is Hash Generator?
SHA-256 produces a fixed 64-character hexadecimal digest for any input. The same input always gives the same hash, and a one-character change produces a completely different one. Hashing is one-way: the original text cannot be recovered from the digest.

Frequently asked questions
Should I store passwords as SHA-256?
No. Password storage needs a slow, salted algorithm such as Argon2, bcrypt, or scrypt. Plain SHA-256 is too fast to resist brute force.
Is Hash Generator free to use?
Yes. Hash Generator is free and does not require an account.
Does my input leave the browser?
